Food in the most easterly point of the Americas is something to behold, it can delight you with the best local cuisine, full of colours and flavours.

The seafood is wonderful and with numerous varieties of shrimp, lobster, crustaceans and fish cooked fresh to your order, can tantalise your culinary pallet. Quite often before your fish is prepared, a selection is brought to your table, and from these you can pick your desired dish.

A Barbeque restaurant is the favoured style. Many different cuts of meat are cooked and continually bought to your table on skewers to be carved; in an all you can eat experience called ‘Rodizio’. This style works out extremely cheap and of great quality and when meeting with friends you can spend all afternoon experimenting the different tastes and styles.

Another popular way to eat is self service, where you pay by weight of the food on your plate. This can provide a very wide variety of options for you, with fresh salads accompanying traditional dishes for you to try.

Sushi bars are widely available along with other international restaurants including Italian, Arabic, and Portuguese to name a few.

On the whole food is prepared simply, and without much spice. Brasilians on the whole don’t like hot and spicy, so if you wish to add a bit of spice to your dish then sauces are provided so you can adapt to your own taste.

There is an abundance of fresh fruits available, sold on most streets and in the bars, and to try them is a must. Whether you eat them as they are or they are turned into drinks called ‘Sucos’ the tropical flavours flow through. One of the fruits to try is Acerola, a local fruit that has a very high concentrate of vitamin C, 4,000 mg per 100 g of fresh fruit, and it is thought a daily dose of this fruit keeps colds and flu’s away.
