Your travel begins in Cabedelo where before you catch the ferryboat to cross the river, you visit fort Santa Catarina built in 1589 and steeped in history. The short ferryboat ride allows you to appreciate the tranquility and sheer beauty of the surrounding area.
Lucena situated on Paraibas North Coast is endowed with sandy, palm lined beaches. A calm ocean allows you to walk 1 km into the crystalline waters exploring the natural sand pools on your way. As you turn to face the beach you can't help but stand in awe of the unspoilt beauty that reaches around the pinnacle and into the bay.
A hallmark of Lucena is the Manatee Preservation Project in the Mamanguape River. Here you can observe these magnificent marine mammals in their natural habitat. The manatees are a testimony of the serene environment which encompass the area.
Back on the beach, the order of the day has to be the varieties of Brasilian seafood dishes. Caught fresh and cooked to please the palate, these local dishes will leave you feeling satisfied and wanting for more at the same time.
An obligatory stop is the 16th century Guia Church, built in the elaborate Spanish Baroque style of expressive, decorative detailing (Churrigueresque). The Guia church is unique in that it has incorporated these Spanish trademarks with typically Brasilian design, and so is therefore very rare in Brasil. Situated at the top of a hill you can view the spectacular scenery on offer.
